American Samoa- born Tulsi Gabbard is humbled at her latest achievement.
The 31 year old has won the Democratic Party primary for the US Congress from Hawaii after defeating a former Honolulu mayor, Mufi Hannemann, who is also of Samoan ancestry.
“I am privileged to be able to work for the people of Hawaii in whatever capacity,” Tulsi says.
Tulsi, who was born in Leloaloa, is also a council member for the Honolulu City Council and will now face a Republican nominee at the November general election.
She is currently a captain with the Hawaii Army National Guard and has volunteered to serve on two deployments to the Middle East.
Not only that, Tulsi has served 2 years as the youngest ever elected legislator in Hawaii and is the youngest elected female state legislator in American history.
Tulsi’s father Mike Gabbard is currently Hawaii State Senator and mother Carol Porter Gabbard is educator and business owner.
