‘Shoe’ me your personality!

First impressions give people a quick snippet of what kind of person you are – your shoes don’t always just do the walking… you can get them talking without you knowing too! ;)

Just like the way you dress and express yourself hanging with your girlfriends, or meeting someone for the very first time – the shoes you pick for your outfit can always tell a story of what kind of girl you are. Of course each shoe decision you make depends on what the occasion is, and what you’re wearing those babies with; so we’ve looked into the first impression your shoes give you on a first date.

Generally, most boys don’t take notice of the shoes we wear unless they’re wild and outrageous – but if your shoes were the deciding factor, they’ve told us what they think. So we had a chat to some shoe fiends, fashion store reps including ourIsland boys to hunt down what your shoes are saying about you!

1)      The Stiletto

Personality:

You’re bold, confident, dressy and sophisticated! Depending on what you wear these with of course, you are deemed to be classy. Stiletto’s accentuate the length of your legs and give you a bit of height so you will be a bit taller than most of the people you would be with. You’re the type of girl who likes to get dolled up and go out to dinner and have a good time with your girlfriends. You have a glamorous lifestyle you like to be noticed.

If you want to wear stilettos on your first date, by all means do it! (Just make sure your date isn’t going to be rock climbing or hiking of course!). What we do recommend is you actually know how to wear these shoes with confidence, or your shoe personality will change from being bold and confident to insecure and clumsy… and we don’t want that happening!

Here’s what the boys had to say:

“I think stilettos are incredibly sexy… on a first date it could make the difference between guys thinking you’re normal or something special. Stilettos to me are for those special occasions – but I understand that they can be every day wear, but I can’t imagine if that would be comfortable or not lol”

“Too much for a first date – they show me that the girl is high maintenance”

“She would look to me that she has got style, confident and looking to impress people”

To be honest? I’m pretty short, so if a girl wore heels on our first date… I’d think she was HOTT AS walking up to me in heels… I guess I’d feel intimidated next to her though… pretty much because I’d look like a kid next to her and I’m meant to be her man lol”

2)      The Wedge

Personality

The wedge basically shows that you are very stylish – and not about status. You are very down to earth and enjoy the company of your girls! You wear wedges to give you a bit of an edge to your look. You are like the stiletto, a confident woman but you’re not over the top. You dress to make a statement to other women – but you don’t care what the boys think because you’re comfortable. The wedge is a bold and thick sole shoe so it shows that you know how to stand your ground and you believe in the things you are passionate about. To sum up your shoe personality – you are a very chic and stylish girl; nothing will stop you from reaching your goals!

Wedges have made a great come-back and looks like they are here to stay! They are the most comfortable but dressy piece of footwear you could buy. Wearing these on a first date would give you a little bit of a height but at the same time make you feel comfortable. As wedges give you an edgy look to your outfit – make sure if you choose high wedges on your first date you are making sure you know to strut your walk in them too. Wedges are a perfect way to make a statement to other IslandHer ladies – just keep in mind that men don’t follow trends so stick with something plain if it’s your first date.

‘Wedge’ you guys think!?

“I think these are cool, I don’t really have any opinion on these other than if it looks good with her outfit then its algood I guess”

“For a first date – seems alright but a little bit too formal for me… as long as they’re not too high”

“These honestly remind me of people who go clubbing lol. For me it’s a high maintenance kinda shoe”

3)      The Flats (aka pumps, ballet shoes)

Personality

Flats are all-round shoes that you can wear anywhere from corporate to casual events. Flats generally are non-heeled or kitten heeled shoes – therefore you are one to not make a great statement about what you wear. Your personality comes across a little bit like the wedge – but you’re not too fussed about your outfit. You are a friendly and out-going person. The idea that your flats do not have a heel show that you are very active and productive, and you’re always on the go!

Flats are the shoes we turn to when we’re on the run and we need to do up a quick fix without looking too shabby. They give the impression that you’re more relaxed about yourself and as long as you’re comfortable no one else can touch you! They are very ideal for a first date (especially if he’s close to your height) and you can never go wrong with these babies unless you’ve got needles sticking out of them. Ouch! If you want to switch up your ‘relaxed, friendly’ girl look with your flats – find something a little bit funkier and add a little bit of colour and some suede to your look if you’re looking beyond those plain black pumps.

So what did our boys think?

“I would think she was easygoing, not too big on impressions, natural, comfortable with herself”

“Simple, but reminds me of Grandmas”

“Flats are like… the default shoes for me lol I prefer it if girls wear flats because I’m Short lol Down to earth, normal and conservative are some of the things that come to mind”

4)      The Sneaker

 Personality

The sneaker has an obvious trait – you’re definitely kick back and a casual girl. You are the type of girl who is a little bit more active and sportier than a ‘Flats’ girl. You get along very well with your guys mates and find yourself hanging out with them more than your friends. This doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a tom boy! You still have style, (as long as you’re not wearing your cross-trainers with your newly purchased dress) and you find yourself trendy. You’re the type of person who will break the rules a little bit, but your friends love you because you’re the type of girl who is always up for anything!

The sneakers are a safe option to choose because this is the one type of footwear most people, especially males know the names of. On a first date males can’t tell the difference between Christian Louboutin’s and Jimmy Choos, but they can between a Converse chuck taylor and Nike. Remember it depends what you wear your sneakers with of course, so make sure if you’ve got funky sneakers – your outfit is plain; and if your sneakers are plain – either add some jewellery or a bit of colour to your top/bottoms J.

Try and remember that sneakers are best with a flat sole, so don’t try and mix your stiletto personality with a sneaker one – unless that’s your style of course!

Sneaker comments from the boys!

“I like girls that wear sneakers – shows that she’s kick back and not too serious”

“I think girls that wear chucks are hot”

“If girls wear sneakers – to be honest that’s probably the only shoe I’d notice lol”

“Depends if we’re going to dinner or something then I would rather her wear dressy shoes, but yeah generally I like a girl in sneakers – shows me that they’re fun, but I guess shoes don’t make a girl fun do they? (laughs)”

“Yeah – as long as they’re flat and don’t try remix with heels then im all for it”

All in all – if you want to impress that special somebody on your first date, make sure whatever shoes you pick you are confident in wearing them. Pick shoes that will best illustrate your character and not something you see on a music video. Although men aren’t captured particularly by your shoes, it does make a little bit of a difference to their first impression of you – especially if they notice your shoes first before they see you coming around the corner!

We live in a world where men don’t follow trends and we gorgeous Islandher ladies dress to compete with other women for style. If you want to make a statement – do it and back it up… walk that talk ;)

    Such an interesting article!

I’m a guy that does notice shoes (yes we exist) and one of my peeves is when a girl wears shoes without confidence. You wear the shoes, don’t let the shoes wear you.

If you can’t handle, stick to Jandals. Hahaha
