Fiji’s fashion winning design

The winner of the Crest Chicken sulu and jaba competition organised by Fiji Fashion Week has been found.

Taufa Rabukawaqa beat ninety-five beautifully designed garments in front of a large crowd at the Civic Centre in Suva.

She walked away with the $750 cash and a $250 Crest gift voucher.

At second place was Ana Donumailagi who won $500 cash and a $150 Crest gift voucher.

The sulu and jaba is a traditional garment for women in Fiji and is still a popular choice.

But the competition allows up and coming as well as local designers that chance to give the outfit a contemporary look.

“Many of the designs were truly wonderful, in their colour, creativity, and adaptation of a traditional outfit,” organisers told Islandher.

“The competition is an evidence of the big attraction it has made, and fashion shows have become important occasions for fashion designers  to get together to display creative skills and gain inspirations from each other,” Minister for Women and Social Welfare Dr Luveni says.
