Chic, classy and fun are a few words to describe February Islandher, Leilani Momoisea’s sense of style. The Radio New Zealand reporter’s distinct fashion sense and trademark topknot bun has been captured in several overseas street style blogs, where she also made an appearance in a New York Fashion Week video singing along to Jay-Z, alongside models Selita Ebanks, Karlie Kloss and Jenny Albright – repping the island ladies woop woop!
Leilani also runs a pretty rad blog called Lani Says, which features interviews, music, daily happenings and loads of foodie posts! (Yuss!)
Islandher caught up with the Samoan/Palagi stunner to find out her style influences and her favourite items from her closet!
I would describe my style as…
Casual but feminine, simple and classic with a twist.
My style is influenced and inspired by…
I get a lot of inspiration from constantly checking style blogs; it gives me ideas for make-up or new ways to wear what’s already in my wardrobe, but ultimately my style is influenced by my body shape. I’m really tall and I pretty much only wear skirts and dresses, I’d love to wear heels everyday but that would make me about 6 foot 5.
My fashion icons are…
I don’t have any particular icons per se, I think I’m drawn to what other women with my kind of body-shape wear, I like to see how they work it. I think I like what Gwyneth Paltrow and Charlize Theron, Zoe Saldana and Whitney Port wear because they all seem to be pretty tall. It doesn’t mean I dress like them, I’m just interested in what they wear.
I love to shop at…
ASOS, I’m on that site every day. I wish we had Zara and Urban Outfitters here; they’re my favourite overseas chains. Karen Walker, Ruby, Country Road and Witchery when they’re on sale. I love Hunters and Collectors vintage store in Wellington too.
Favourite items in my wardrobe are…
My Opening Ceremony booties I got on sale at one of the Designer Warehouse sales, my Top Shop leather jacket and my Uniqlo khaki jacket.

I’m not a fan of….
I think the trend is over but if people are still wearing ‘geek-chic’ glasses that aren’t prescription, they need to stop. Also, leggings as pants need to stop too.
In a perfect world, I’d be wearing…
Whatever takes my fancy on Net-A-Porter, Lanvin, Stella McCartney, Miu Miu, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs. NZ designers would be Ruby, Karen Walker, Salasai, Kate Sylvester, Zambesi.
Lani’s Top 5 Faves at the mo’:
1. Strawberry Ice-cream from Mangere Strawberry Farm
2. Stay Scheming – Rick Ross Feat. Drake & French Montana
