Closet Diaries with…Lana Lopesi of Lopsey

Lana Lopesi is the talented Samoan/Canadian designer of up and coming brand Lopsey. The future is looking very bright for Lana, after her first runway show featured at The Basement as a part of the New Zealand Fashion Festival.

Lana also runs a mean blog, which features a sneak peek into the latest range, Revolt of the Cool Cat, footage of their runway show and other pretty awesome content from behind the scenes.

Islandher caught up with the skilful designer and Fine Arts student about her style inspiration and her favourite places to shop!

I would describe my style as…

My style is boho, slouchy, comfortable, casual.

My style is influenced and inspired by…

My day-to-day tasks. As boring as that sounds I study Fine Art as well as run Lopsey so need awesome clothes and shoes that’ll last long days and nights.

My fashion icons are…

Everyday people. People on the street, in the city, around uni are the best source of fashion icons. You quickly learn what looks good and what doesn’t by people watching.

I love to shop at…

Opshops! I love op shopping. Definitely not for everyone, but if you enjoy hunting out a piece of history and putting your own spin on it, it’s the way to go. Plus you’re also helping out various charities and it’s the sustainable way to shop. Urban Outfitters, ASOS and Nasty Gal are also primo sites to get some amazing pieces.

Favourite items in my wardrobe are…

Love heart crochet cardigan, Nasty Gal velvet platforms, Lopsey singlets!

I’m not a fan of….

Jeggings and leggings as pants should die, quickly.

In a perfect world, I’d be wearing…

Ahh the question is what wouldn’t I be wearing. A big supporter of NZ labels so streetwear from Lower, Federation, Huffer as well as Stolen Girlfriends Club, Zambesi, World. Anything amazing and kiwi is good by me.

My Top 5 Favourite things at the moment:

1. Craven Loyalty Card (Don’t drink coffee, but a hot chocolate from these guys gets me through long days).

2. Chicken Katsu Bento dates with the Boyfriend

3. Gift Vouchers

4. Lonely Planet Guides (A girl can dream)

5. TV in general (best way to blob out after a hard day’s work)
